The process of replicating work from the golden age of Hollywood requires a minimum of two hours. Most sessions will last about two and one-half hours. In that time, I will shoot between eight and twelve individually designed and lit poses. Nudity is not expected or required. I prefer the well-dressed, beautiful woman.
The process begins with makeup and hair styling. This preparation will account for about 45 minutes to one hour depending on the exact look desired. There are several styles to choose from. For example, Clara Bow was named the "It" girl of the early 1920s; she would be described as a "vamp". The "starlet" style would reflect the look of Constance Bennett and Jean Harlow. Myrna Loy, Claudette Colbert and Norma Shearer were role models - the result is the "sophisticate". The wartime 1940s created a need for escape and fantasy. Hedy Lamarr, Gene Tierney and especially because of her flaming red hair, Rita Hayworth were the "sirens" of their time. The "bombshell" group included Jayne Mansfield, Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe. Other styles include the "icon" (Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo), the "gamine" (Audrey Hepburn, Kim Novak and Gwyneth Paltrow), the "diva" (Barbra Streisand and Cher), and the "ingenue" (Ann-Margaret). There are more styles that can be used. I will also provide someone who will assist you with your makeup.
Selecting the right wardrobe is very important. The best results are accomplished by wearing items that are shiny like silks, satins and sequins. Shiny clothing will help reflect light back into your face and fill in shadows.
You will be required to sign a model release at the end of the session. The prints I give you will be stamped on the back with “photo credit requested” but no restrictive copyright. In other words, you are free to use them in any way you choose.
