The aura of Hollywood's golden age applied to the 21st century woman.

The Hollywood Glamour style of photography resulted from fan mail pouring into movie studios during the Depression years.  The volume of mail was estimated in excess of 32 million letters per year during 1930 to 1935.  Studios were forced to create publicity staffs to handle fan mail and send out fan photos.  Audiences responded to the these personalities, recognizing them as being closer to themselves , as a more "real" and  human, as being untouched by glamour.  The studios also capitalized on fan magazines to provide an inexpensive form of publicity and advertising.  The evolution of the movie business created many opportunities for portrait photographers like Clarence Sinclair Bull, Milton Greene, Ray Jones, Eugene Robert Richee and the master, George Hurrell.
